Cessna Citation Ascend: Cleaner, Quieter, Longer-Lasting
In the quest to reduce carbon footprints, each aircraft manufacturer has its own approach. Cessna, a legendary American company under Textron Aviation, has chosen to focus on a modern engine that positively impacts the entire aircraft. This article, prepared in collaboration with the annual Planet Jet Guide following our visit to EBACE, delves into the innovations.
Advanced Engine and Fuel Efficiency
The new Pratt & Whitney Canada engines offer slightly more thrust (1% increase) compared to the previous generation, but significantly reduce airframe vibration, fuel consumption, and extend engine life and maintenance intervals. These improvements ensure the Cessna Citation Ascend is more eco-friendly and cost-efficient.
Enhanced Auxiliary Power Unit
The Ascend features an upgraded Honeywell RE100 auxiliary power unit (APU) that heats or cools the cabin on the ground. The APU includes new self-monitoring and leak detection capabilities.
Interior Innovations
The interior of the Citation Ascend boasts the most significant updates. A flat floor, absent in previous Citation XLS models, provides a modern cabin feel, albeit with a slight reduction in cabin height. Improved sound insulation aligns it with Cessna's super midsize jets, and redesigned seats enhance passenger comfort for long flights, such as from London to Athens or Helsinki to Porto. Optional features include additional footrests, lumbar support, and personalized seat designs.
Modern Amenities
Additional comforts include electric window shades, lighting, climate control, and an entertainment system managed via a smartphone app. The cabin offers six wireless charging ports and 19 USB ports. Enhanced WiFi and a Bongiovi acoustic system come standard.
