Bombardier Receives Order for Challenger 650 Air Ambulance

Bombardier Defense is expanding its presence in Germany with an order from the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC) for a Challenger 650 in an air ambulance configuration. ADAC subsidiary Aero-Dienst will operate the large-cabin, twin-engine aircraft to transport its patients worldwide. Delivery of the Challenger 650 is scheduled for 2026.

“For more than 50 years, ADAC Versicherung’s air ambulance service, in cooperation with Aero-Dienst in Nuremberg, has set global standards in patient repatriation,” said Sascha Petzold of the ADAC Versicherung management board. “By investing in the new aircraft, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing first-class services to our ADAC members and policyholders. Thanks to the Challenger 650’s long range, we can serve our members worldwide using ADAC’s own fleet.”

Petzold added that the aircraft, with a range of 4,000 nautical miles, represents an important step in the company’s fleet modernization strategy.

“The Challenger 650 is the best aircraft available for our air ambulance operations because its performance is ideally suited to our flight profiles,” added Aero-Dienst Managing Director Oliver Kosing. “Another important factor for Aero-Dienst is the availability of the highest standard of intensive-care medical equipment for transporting up to four patients. In addition, the fuselage dimensions, large diameter and standing height allow our medical personnel to provide patients with the best possible care during flight.”
