Business Aviation Traffic Continues to Decline

According to WingX, worldwide business aviation traffic volumes have shown a 4% downward trend over the past four weeks. Traffic in the second week of January fell by 7% compared with the same period last year, as winter storms and the end of the holidays affected transport activity. In particular, according to WingX, the number of flights declined, while airlines recorded 6% growth compared with the same period last year.

In the second week, traffic in North America fell by 8.5% compared with last year, although the figure varied by region: it declined by 4.7% in Mexico and by 9.3% in the United States. Despite this, Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, the country’s busiest business aviation airport, remained at last year’s level.

In Europe, traffic fell by 6% compared with the same period last year in the second week of the year and declined by 2% over the past four weeks. Light aircraft remained the busiest segment during the week, with the number of flights in the region exceeding 1,600. More than 500 unique ultra-long-range aircraft were active during the second week. Traffic trends varied by region: in France, they declined by 15% in the second week, while in Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum was held, they rose by 6%.

Traffic continues to improve in Asia and the Middle East, rising by 2% compared with the previous year in the second week and by 10% specifically in the Middle East.
