Duncan Installs Gogo 5G on Its Citation Excel

Duncan Aviation, an aircraft maintenance and repair specialist, recently equipped its corporate Cessna Citation Excel with Gogo’s 5G air-to-ground (ATG) connectivity system, amid the expansion of the North American ATG network. Gogo’s 5G ATG service went live late last year and now covers the entire continental U.S. and part of Canada.

Duncan uses its Citation Excel (registration N1KD) to transport employees between its facilities and satellite locations. The company noted that it fully understands how important it is to remain connected and productive while in flight.

With the ATG network now delivering a significant increase in speed—up to 80 Mbps for downloads and 20 Mbps for uploads, according to Gogo—several company executives shared their impressions of the service.

Among them was PK Duncan, corporate fleet program manager. He said he used the system during a two-hour flight. “I answered emails, updated schedules and worked through tasks in Microsoft To Do via Outlook. I was even able to switch between Outlook, our internal myDuncan system and our internal corporate platform, so the computer was fully in use on both legs of the two-hour flight,” he said. “The speed and connection remained stable throughout the flight and exceeded my already high expectations.”

Vice President and General Counsel Kramer Lyons added that he used the system to connect to the corporate VPN and download documents. “The Wi-Fi worked great and allowed me to stay connected with the team while we worked on several projects,” Lyons said.

Bruno Mazzani, Duncan’s satellite operations business development manager, tested the system on his Android smartphone. “I tested it with YouTube, Instagram and Netflix—everything worked smoothly, without interruption. Several WhatsApp voice and video calls also went well,” Mazzani noted.

During one flight, 16 devices were tested at the same time. “The aircraft was full, many devices were connected, and I wanted to put as much load on the system as possible. During the flight, I also remained in constant contact with Gogo representatives, sharing my experience,” said Nate Klenke, modifications and upgrades services sales manager in Lincoln.
