Nationwide capacity upgrade supports connected business jets

Viasat says US network capacity for JetXP has risen fivefold, with a software update supporting concurrent calls, streaming and file transfers.

Nationwide capacity upgrade supports connected business jets

Roughly 65% of global business-jet traffic originates in the United States. For BizAv operators, that concentration makes additional US network capacity a strategic upgrade rather than just a perk for one region.

Viasat says US JetXP capacity has increased fivefold. That measures network capacity; it doesn't promise that every passenger will get five times the speed when connecting aboard an aircraft.

More Room for the Connected Cabin

The expansion now reaches across the country. According to Viasat’s October 2026 release, the enhancement initially covered the Eastern United States before extending nationwide across the company's network. Viasat says the additional capacity supports simultaneous HD videoconferencing, streaming, AI tools and bulk file transfers across multiple devices, with greater consistency and reliability.

The target is a busy cabin. A principal joins a board discussion while an adviser uploads presentation files and family members stream entertainment on their own devices. That's the intended experience: fewer compromises between work and leisure, without passengers having to manage the network themselves.

“Our customers want to do more in the air, whether that’s a board call, streaming for the family, or sending large files, all at the same time and on every device,” says Claudio D’Amico, Viasat’s VP of OEMs, partners and fleets, business aviation, in the October release.

Software drives the capacity increase. Viasat says an update further optimises network management globally, while its fivefold capacity claim applies specifically to the United States network.

An Upgrade Path for Existing Owners

What does an owner need to do?

Start by checking with the service provider. In October 2026, Viasat advises existing JetXP customers to contact Collins Aerospace, Gogo or Honeywell Aerospace to confirm eligibility and arrange the update. Owners shouldn't assume the enhancement is already available aboard a particular aircraft.

The installed base gives the announcement commercial weight. Viasat reports JetXP activated on more than 2,100 aircraft worldwide, bringing the legacy Jet ConneX and Viasat Ka services under one brand. The US expansion targets existing customers. Against that backdrop, it's an investment in aircraft already using those services, not simply a proposition for the next aircraft purchase.

For owners and flight departments, the practical test is how calls, streaming and file transfers perform together on their own missions. Confirm eligibility, then arrange the software update. Capacity is the engineering headline; the more valuable outcome is a cabin where everyone can carry on uninterrupted throughout the flight.
