Piaggio Secures Launch Order for Avanti NX

Piaggio Aerospace is preparing to launch the next-generation Avanti NX aircraft after securing its first customer.

Piaggio Secures Launch Order for Avanti NX

Piaggio Aerospace has secured the first customer for the P.180 Avanti NX, with a European operator ordering 2 of the next-generation twin-engine pusher-propeller aircraft, the company announced today at Aero Friedrichshafen. The aircraft will be delivered in an executive business configuration with stretcher accommodation modules, allowing them to be converted for air ambulance operations.

Unveiled in late February, the NX will receive systems upgrades, including avionics, as well as new interior features and improved technical support. The presentation came less than a year after a change of ownership and the company’s emergence from bankruptcy following a process that lasted several years. Piaggio said the aircraft would serve as a “working platform” for exploring new concepts and targeted upgrades.

“We are proud to have signed a contract for the sale of the Avanti NX so soon after the aircraft’s presentation,” said Piaggio Aerospace CEO Giovanni Tomassini. “Returning to Aero Friedrichshafen after a long absence and signing a contract for 2 aircraft demonstrate that, with Baykar’s support, we are making a confident return to the aviation market.”

Piaggio Aerospace plans to gradually increase production in the coming years, aiming to reach a volume of 30 aircraft per year over the next decade as demand grows. Ahead of the launch of the next-generation model, Piaggio is marking the 40th anniversary of the aircraft’s first flight.

At the same time, Piaggio is strengthening maintenance and customer support, including by expanding its partnership with Rheinland Air Service (RAS) as an authorized service center. RAS has been an authorized service center since 2014, and Piaggio noted that in the past 2 years alone, the company has serviced more than 40 Avanti aircraft, representing a quarter of the entire fleet.

In addition, Piaggio recently received EASA Part-147 Category C approval from the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), allowing its maintenance training organization to offer a specialized training program for personnel performing base maintenance on P.180 aircraft that certifies the return of aircraft to service.
