Pre-Owned Business Jet Inventory Rises as Prices Fall

In February, pre-owned business jet inventory rose by 32% compared with the same period last year, while prices declined by 5%. Citing Amstat data, analysts report that the inventory increase affected every segment of the industry: the number of available heavy jets rose by 37%, midsize jets by 32%, and light jets by 28%. Inventory of aircraft that went out of production less than 7 years ago increased by 35% year on year. Available inventory, representing 4.3% of the entire business jet fleet, remains below the five-year average of 5.1%. Overall, 1,094 business jets were listed for sale in February, compared with 1,078 a month earlier and 831 in February 2023. The 2023 figures were close to the low.

According to analysts, in-production Dassault Falcons recorded the largest inventory increase last month, rising by 80% compared with last year. However, this was from a small base, with only 18 aircraft listed for sale. Meanwhile, Cessna Citation inventory rose by 49% year on year, with 104 aircraft listed for sale. The Citation Mustang drove the increase in sales.

Bombardier inventory rose by 45% to 58 aircraft. This resulted from an 86% surge in the number of Challengers on the market, of which there were only seven a year ago. Gulfstream inventory increased by 33% to 69 aircraft, including 13 G650s. Amstat figures show that the Savannah, Georgia-based manufacturer has now produced 53 G700s, including 46 for customers. Conversely, Embraer inventory declined by 16% to 26 business jets, with fewer Legacy 650s and Phenom 100s listed for sale.

As for prices, although they declined by 5% compared with February 2023, they rose by one point compared with January. The Dassault fleet posted the only increase, rising by 7% compared with the same period last year, with the Falcon 900 series alone up by 59%. Gulfstream prices fell by 12%, Embraer Executive Jets by 9%, Bombardier by 6%, and Cessna Citation by 3%.
